Indian Head Massage
Also known as Champissage, is a treatment that focuses on massaging acupressure points along the head, neck, and shoulders, often using circular massage strokes.
Indian head massage is an ancient therapeutic practice that has been used in India for over 5000 years, and requires no specialist equipment, making it a very accessible treatment, perfect for newcomers to massage as it is delivered while seated, with shoulders bare or through light clothing. Clients will be provided with a lovely thick blanket to keep you warm and cosy.
It originates from an Indian alternative medicine system called Ayurveda, (translated as the ‘science of life’), whereby it is believed that the mind and body are intricately connected and thus can influence one another.
What to expect from Indian Head Massage
Be prepared for the fact that some of the massage will be quite firm – it can be quite an odd sensation to have your skull massaged. If at any point during the massage you would like to adjust how firm the movements are please just say so, it shouldn’t be painful.
After a treatment, you are hopefully going to feel more relaxed, however massage to the head can make some people feel light headed so you will always be offered a drink after each treatment.
Ideally you would be chauffeur driven home but that may not be possible.
What is Indian Head Massage good for?
Promotes hair growth by increasing oxygen in the hair follicles which stimulates growth
Releases built-up tension in the head and neck area and relieves muscle stiffness which can help to reduce the frequency and severity of headaches
Renews and balances energy levels by working with the three higher chakras
Relieves symptoms of depression and anxiety through relaxation
Boosts memory capabilities by relieving stress and quieting the mind
Stimulates lymphatic drainage by circulating blood to the neck area
Stimulates better sleep by reducing stress
Soothes the sinuses
Refreshes tired eyes – we all spend too much time staring at screens nowadays, and this is one way to ease eye strain. Massaging around the eye and into the temples loosens the muscles around your eye sockets and can help them feel rejuvenated and refreshed.
Before Attending
You should wear loose-fitting clothing, as I will need to massage your neck and shoulders and I want to ensure that you don’t feel restricted or uncomfortable. It’s a good idea to not have too many layers.
Alternatively many clients opt to replace their top half of clothing and wrap themselves in a soft blanket instead, this allows easy access to the shoulders.
Precautions
As with any treatment it is important to let us know in advance if you:
have any medical conditions or are receiving any treatment or medication
have recently had an injury or operation
are allergic to anything, particularly skin allergies
have any broken skin or sores on your scalp
