One-to-one conversations to support an individual in making changes

Workplace Coaching

Coaching is a development approach based on the use of one-to-one conversations to support an individual in making changes to their existing situation.

What is Coaching?

Coaching aims to work with individuals on agreed goals to support their work and personal wellbeing.

It may focus on specific skills and goals, as well as having an impact on an individual’s personal attributes such as social interaction or confidence.

The process typically lasts for a defined period of time or forms the basis of an on-going management style.

Workplace Coaching

Some generally agreed characteristics of coaching in organisations are:

  • It’s essentially a non-directive form of development.
  • It focuses on improving performance and developing an individual.
  • Personal factors may be included.
  • Coaching activities have both organisational and individual goals.
  • It provides people with the opportunity to better assess their strengths as well as their development areas.

The aims of providing workplace coaching can include:

  • Assisting performance management.
  • Preparing and supporting people through change.
  • Supporting self-directed learning and development.
  • supporting individuals on their outlook.

How does it work?

As a qualified leadership and management coach I will work with you to identify difficulties or issues in all areas of your life that may be affecting your performance and wellbeing in the workplace.   I take a holistic approach to helping clients live healthy and fulfilled lives which includes workplace issues .

I will not tell you what to do, rather I will help you identify issues and areas of concern by working closely with you in order to help clarify your core values, set priorities and identity a vision for your future. This may be in conjunction with third party stakeholders within organisations who may be pivotal in supporting your development journey.

We will then work one on one to guide you towards the actions you need to take in order to attain that vision and become the best possible version of yourself. We will help you to create simple and achievable goals with measurable and noticeable results.

You could think of a coach as a guide.

In a workplace situation, a coach typically plays a supportive and developmental role to help individuals or teams achieve their professional goals and enhance their performance. My aim is not to ‘fix you’. I will provide you with a toolkit to enable you to work on yourself. By listening to your story, asking pertinent questions and prompting you to look inside yourself, this will help you to take control of your own life and discover how to eradicate (or minimise) your particular stressors.

As an external coach I have the advantage of being objective and can act as a sounding board for individual team members.

Here are some key activities that we might work on together:

Goal Setting: working with individuals or teams to establish clear and measurable goals that align with organizational objectives. They help define specific targets, milestones, and desired outcomes.

Identifying ways in which you communicate and learn so helping you to become clearer in your communication with others through a shared understanding.

Problem-Solving: Working together and acting as a sounding board for your ideas will encourage development of critical thinking, ability to see a ‘bigger picture ‘exploration of potential solutions.

Through our sessions I will support individuals or teams to stay focused, committed, and accountable for their actions and goals.

I will address work-life balance concerns and help individuals prioritize their personal well-being alongside their professional responsibilities. I provide strategies for managing stress, setting boundaries, and maintaining overall wellness, which may involve other services offered at the centre.

It is important to note that although I will guide and assist you, it is down to you to implement and follow what we discover together in order to achieve the desired outcomes.

What our clients say

Vanessa was very genuine and understanding and acknowledged the type of problems that I was seeking coaching on. She was empathetic to my situation and felt actively listened to. I certainly felt supported and understood, she repeated back to me at regular intervals, and hearing my own words repeat it back to me was incredibly powerful. Especially when my own words were repeated back as a question, to me. She gave me lots of encouragement to dig deeper into the issue, whilst giving me praise for locating the solutions fairly easily, and in fact for the ones I already have in place and had clearly forgotten about. She wasn’t afraid of asking the difficult questions or rephrasing them to soften them or to make them easier to respond to. Some of her more probing questions, were incredibly direct and refreshingly to the point. “A 9 that’s great!, what’s stopping you giving me a 10?” Vanessa built in some accountability and timelines to make these goals smart. The solutions she assisted me to uncover were clearly workable, as I have begun to put them into place already within 48 hours of our coaching session.
